Ratio first, then position

Batch cropping is two decisions. The ratio decides the shape — 1:1 for a marketplace grid, 4:5 for a portrait feed post, 16:9 for a video thumbnail. The focal point decides which part survives when the source is a different shape.

A centred crop is the safe default and quietly wrong for two common cases: full-length portraits, where centre cuts through the torso, and product shots with the subject sitting low in the frame. Moving the focal point to the top or bottom fixes an entire batch at once.

When one image needs different treatment

Batch settings get you ninety percent of the way; the remaining photographs are the ones where the subject sits somewhere unusual. Opening any image gives you a crop window where you can zoom and reposition just that file, and the override takes precedence over the batch setting for that image only.

Overrides survive changes to the batch settings, so you can adjust the ratio afterwards without losing the framing you set by hand.

Cropping and resizing together

Cropping and resizing are separate stages, applied in that order. Cropping decides the shape, resizing decides the pixel dimensions. If you need both an exact ratio and an exact size, set the crop ratio and then use exact dimensions with the matching numbers — or skip the crop panel entirely and use Fill mode, which crops to your target box automatically.
